Stars 1,2 & 3

Star 1,2 & 3 are exciting drama, dance and singing classes for children aged from 7 to 18. We split the school into class groups so your child will learn with others of a similar age. Class groups are kept to a maximum of 20. We want to ensure your child gets the attention that they need.

Each term we cover a variety of material from musical theatre to street dance and pop songs. We often invite guest teachers to give a workshop in specialist skills such as stage combat or acting for the camera.

Each week your child will learn under the expert guidance of a specialist choreographer, drama coach and singing coach. The session lasts for three hours with an hour for each class.

Drama

Your child will learn to work as part of a team and make new friends through drama games. Your child will also develop their creativity through improvisation exercises. Through the year your child will learn a variety of skills such as acting for camera, stage combat and comedy. These classes will help your child to develop both the foundations of stagecraft and their own self-confidence.

Dance

Our dance classes will help your child develop flexibility, physical strength and co-ordination skills in a safe environment. Your child will also develop social skills as they will often work with a partner for a piece of choreography. During the year your child will have the opportunity to learn a variety of dance styles from street to contemporary and musical theatre.

Singing

Your child will learn the fundamentals of how to sing correctly, warming up vocally and using breathing techniques to create sound. This class will help your child both develop and find their own voice. There are opportunities throughout the year for your child to sing solo sections of a song during a showcase or musical theatre performance.

Performance

Regular performance to an audience is key to helping your child grow in confidence. The students in Star 1,2 & 3 classes perform to family and friends twice a year.

Musical Theatre Performance

Your child will have the opportunity to take part in a costumed musical theatre production. This style of production encourages teamwork and allows the students to work together as a whole company. We add polish to the performance with professional sound and lighting production.

End of Term Showcase

A showcase performance of class work ensures that you see for yourself the skills your child is developing at Spotlights. This is a more intimate style of performance than the musical theatre production. Your child will present their work in a small class group. There are lots of opportunities for solo singing, dance and drama during the showcase.
